Contribute to shaping the EU long-term budget

Europeans are called to have their say on the next EU long-term budget, known as the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), and policies it should support. For this purpose, the European Commission has launched a series of public consultations, running from 12 February 2025 to 6 May 2025. EU funding for external action and EU funding for cross-border education, training, solidarity, youth, media, culture, creative sectors, values, and civil society are two key areas of focus. The Commission’s proposals are expected to be presented in 2025, and the next MFF will start in 2028.

Supporting EU funding for cross-border education, training and solidarity, young people, media, culture, and creative sectors, values, and civil society

The European Commission seeks to establish a more straightforward, targeted, and adaptable budget that aligns with European strategic priorities, in accordance with the 2024-2029 Political Guidelines set forth by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

A series of public consultations has been launched with this goal, including the role of the EU funding for cross-border education, training and solidarity, young people, media, culture, and creative sectors, values, and civil society. This consultation aims to refine funding mechanisms to ensure they effectively support mobility, skills development, and democratic participation. The Commission is interested in gathering feedback from students, educational institutions, media professionals, cultural organisations, and civil society actors who benefit from EU programmes such as Erasmus+, Creative Europe, and the European Solidarity Corps.

Enhancing EU funding for external action

Another key consultation focuses on EU funding for external action, ensuring it remains strategically aligned with Europe’s global priorities. This funding stream plays a crucial role in international cooperation, crisis response, and sustainable development, reinforcing the EU’s commitment to stability and prosperity beyond its borders.

The consultation aims to make funding more effective in addressing geopolitical challenges, humanitarian aid, and partnerships with third countries.

The Commission seeks input from international stakeholders, businesses, NGOs, and national authorities on how to optimise external action financing.

Have your say!

Consultations remain open until 6 May 2025.

To contribute to the next MFF, you can complete questionnaires for each consultation. These questionnaires are available in various official EU languages, and responses can be submitted in any official EU language.

Insights gathered from these consultations, will support a draft proposal for the next MFF, which is expected to be presented later this year (2025).
